Meta Descriptions ARE important for SEO

The description you find under just below a link in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPS) is technically referred to as a meta description, every page on the web has the ability to specify what it wishes to have there.

Meta descriptions are often overlooked by many webmasters and SEO people because they hold no value in a website’s ability to rank. Whilst that is true the meta description is important for SEO because it can be the deciding factor on whether or not you get you get click-through’s and traffic. A poor meta description may divert potential visitors to your competitor websites.

SEO has evolved tremendously over the last decade. Years ago the job of the person doing the SEO was simply to ensure that the technical aspect of the website was all correct.
